Spinal Manipulation or the "Adjustment"
Diversified
The spinal manipulation, or "adjustment" usually involves gentle pressure, or a quick thrust to restore normal motion to joints that have become "locked" or immobile due to malalignment. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated the efficacy, safety, cost-effectiveness and high levels of patient satisfaction patients experience when they receive a spinal manipulation. Dr. Moramarco most frequently uses the diversified method of chiropractic adjusting.
Activator
Most patients receive manual adjustments, but Dr. Moramarco is also skilled in "low force" adjustments, performed with a hand-held device. known as an Activator® adjusting instrument. The adjustments delivered via this instrument are gentle and precise. Dr. Moramarco will always discuss which adjusting method he recommends for your particular chiropractic case.
Cox-Flexion Distraction
Dr. Moramarco is experienced in the Cox-Flexion Distraction technique. He has been using this technique very successfully with patients since he opened his Woburn chiropractic office over twenty-two years ago.
*If you have been to a chiropractor before and prefer to be adjusted in a certain way, please let Dr. Moramarco know. We want you to be satisfied with your care in our office so you may experience all the benefits chiropractic has to offer.
Therapy Modalities at our Woburn Chiropractic Office:
Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Electrical muscle stimulation uses low level electrical current delivered to irritated tissues to reduce pain and facilitate healing. Electrodes are placed on the skin in specific locations to recruit the appropriate muscles. Patients experience a mild "tingling" sensation while the impulses stimulate the body to release natural pain relievers called endorphins. Contracting the muscle via electrical stimulation also helps strengthen the affected muscle and promotes blood supply to the area to help decrease inflammation and aid in healing. The setting of the current can be adjusted to the patient's comfort level. This therapy is often used to treat acute or chronic pain, as well as strains or sprains of the muscles, joints, and soft tissues of the spine and extremities.
Ultrasound Therapy
The ultrasound therapy used at our Woburn chiropractic office is a therapeutic procedure that utilizes sound waves to treat irritated muscles, joints and soft tissue. The sound waves are transmitted to the surrounding tissue and vasculature to penetrate the muscles resulting in deep tissue muscle warming. This process promotes tissue relaxation and is therefore useful in treating tightness and spasms. The warming effect of the sound waves increases circulation to the injured area to facilitate healing and decrease inflammation. Sound waves also help stimulate cellular activity responsible for tissue repair. This is a relaxing treatment that helps to diminish muscle spasms and knots.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger point therapy focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in thebelly of the muscle tissue rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These ‘knots' are built up due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. Focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release the trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and transformative.
Dry Hydromassage
Hydromassage is actually a dry whirlpool modality. The patient lies on a table while contained jets direct water toward the back. The intent is to alleviate pain, increase blood flow, aid in healing and to improve overall well being.
Traction
Traction has many benefits. It is an excellent way to reduce pressure on cervical (neck) or lumbar (lower back) discs. Traction effectively reduces joint and nerve pain, and pressure and inflammation, caused by bulging or herniated discs.
Ice
Ice is the therapy of choice for acute injuries. In fact, the application of ice over any irritated tissue is usually a good choice at any stage of injury. Ice works by constricting blood flow to the tissue, thereby reducing swelling, pain and spasms. It is very important to use ice correctly. It should be used for a maximum of 20 minutes and may be applied once each hour. Also, do not apply ice directly to the skin. Wrap the ice pack in a thin, damp towel or cloth before applying it to the injured area.
Heat
Heat is effective in treating more chronic conditions. Do not use heat in the first few days after an injury or when an old injury has been exacerbated - and never when experiencing swelling. Heat from a moist heating pad or a warm shower or bath is best. Heat can be applied for a 20 minutes once per hour.
Backsystems Three
Backsystems Three is used for stretching. This simple and versatile machine increases lumbo pelvic range of motion and stretches the upper and lower back, shoulders, psoas, hamstrings, IT band, piriformis, gluteals, and quads.
Pneumex Unweighted Exercise System
Pneumex is an unweighted exercise program designed to address a variety of conditions and accomplish many goals. The Pneu-Back ProgramTM is used to treat anterior and posterior back problems including pain, injuries, sprains, herniations and sciatica, sports injuries and scoliosis. It focuses on getting "sleeping" or "lazy" muscles to fire. The goal is to promote healing and function. We also use this innovative equipment for gait analysis and training, and for scoliosis patients. The emphasis is on posture, flexibility, functional strength, and lifetime skills.
The Pneu-Unweighting ProgramTM is designed to accommodate those with a variety of physical handicaps and is also for those patients with hip, knee, ankle and balance problems. The system was initially developed for sports injury rehab and sports overspeed training - Dr.Moramarco has helped rehab local NFL athletes on this system - it is that impressive.
Activities of Daily Living-3-D Made Easy
The purpose of this intensive instruction is to help the scoliosis patient learn a corrected postural stance while standing, walking, sitting etc. according to specific guidelines. The goal is to teach the patient to counteract the likelihood of spinal curve progression and to reduce symptoms associated with scoliosis.
Schroth Method for Scoliosis/German 'Best Practice'
The Schroth Method is a non-surgical conservative approach for the treatment and management of scoliosis for adolescents and adults. These exercise and breathing techniques address scoliosis from a three dimensional perspective. Some goals of the Schroth techniques include halting curve progression (in adolescents we strive for some degree of reduction), improvement of pulmonary function, improvement in posture and appearance and thru knowledge of one's own unique scoliosis to help empower the patient. Please refer to our Scoliosis 3DC website for more information on the Schroth Method. Dr. Moramarco sees Schroth patients in the rehabilitation area of his Woburn chiropractic office.
