Beginning in 1921, through trial and error, Katharina Schroth devised what is now referred to internationally as the Schroth Method for Scoliosis - to help improve the effects of her own scoliosis. Her success attracted attention throughout Germany and others sought out her help. By the late 30’s her method became well recognized as a conservative way to treat scoliosis. Her daughter, Christa Lehnert-Schroth helped her mother as a girl, and later became a physical therapist. Together they worked diligently and were able to grow and advance the Schroth system. In 1961, mother and daughter moved the clinic to Bad Sobernheim (in the Rhineland), where Christa continued as director until 1995. Her son, Dr. Hans-Rudolf Weiss took over after her retirement and was the director of that impressive facility until just recently. The Asklepios Katharina-Schroth Clinic is now an inpatient facility with almost 200 beds and patients travel there from all over the world. Christa Lehnert-Schroth and Dr. Weiss have treated or supervised thousands of scoliosis patients throughout their esteemed careers and continue to carry on Katharina Schroth’s impressive work.
